Wedding wishlist

In short. Create a wishlist in GIFTbase, make it collaborative and invite your partner as a co-author so both of you can add gifts. Collect 15–25 items from $25 to $500 and put the link on your invitation or wedding website. Guests reserve gifts on the list page without an account, and bigger items are easy to split. No money passes through GIFTbase, so there are no fees.

Why couples make a wedding wishlist

One list for two

You both add and edit gifts from your own phones. Nobody waits for the other to find time.

No three toasters

Reservations show up for every guest: whoever reserves an item buys it, everyone else picks from what's left.

Gifts for every budget

College friends pick the glasses, relatives cover the stand mixer. A good wedding list has room for both.

Any store, one list

Cookware from Target, a lamp from IKEA, a print from an Etsy artist and dinner for your first anniversary.

Where couples find gifts for the list

Wedding lists usually come from home, kitchen and tech stores. A pasted link becomes a card with a photo and price, so guests don't have to hunt for the exact model.

A honeymoon excursion, a photo session or a cooking class go on the list as a link too.

How to build a wedding wishlist together

Start two to three months before the date: close family often shops early.

  1. Set up a shared list

One of you creates a wishlist in GIFTbase, makes it collaborative and invites the other as a co-author. From then on it's your list.

  2. Walk through your home

Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, fun: write down what's missing or worn out. Add the model for appliances and the color and size for linens.

  3. Spread the budget

About a third under $50, a third at $50–150, and a few bigger items guests can go in on.

  4. Put the link on the invitation

The list's address fits on a printed invitation, a wedding website or the guest group chat.

How to mention your wishlist on the invitation: 3 ways

Tone matters most: the list helps guests and obliges no one. Copy and adjust.

Short

“If you'd like to celebrate us with a gift, we've put together a list of things for our home: [link]”

With a smile

“To avoid three toasters and zero skillets, we made a wishlist: [link]”

For cash-gift fans

“Your presence is the best gift. If you'd like to add something, we're saving for our honeymoon, and our gift list is here: [link]”

Can you ask for money on a wedding wishlist?

Yes, if you say it plainly and kindly. Plenty of couples are saving for a honeymoon or a down payment, and many guests find cash easier. Two approaches that work:

  • A goal on the list. Add a wish like “Honeymoon in Portugal” or “New sofa” with a price, and say in the note that contributions of any size are welcome.
  • Card plus list. Say on the invitation that a card is the best gift, and leave the wishlist link for guests who prefer to give something physical.

GIFTbase doesn't process payments: the app keeps the list and the reservations, and guests give money the way they usually do.

What to put on a wedding wishlist

A guide for couples who already live together: fewer basics, more upgrades and experiences.

Kitchen

A good chef's knife, a cast-iron skillet, an espresso machine, a stand mixer, wine glasses for six.

Bedroom and bath

Sateen sheets, a warm comforter, matching bath towels, a humidifier.

Big items to split

A robot vacuum, a quality cookware set, a projector. Guests happily go in on these in twos and threes.

Experiences for two

Dinner on your first anniversary, a night at a country inn, a photo shoot, a pottery class.

For the honeymoon

A carry-on, a travel kit, an action camera, a power bank, an excursion voucher.

Wedding wishlist example: 15 items

  1. Wine glasses, set of 6 — about $40
  2. Cast-iron skillet, 12 in — $45
  3. Chef's knife, 8 in — $80
  4. Sateen sheet set, queen, charcoal or ivory — $120
  5. Bath towels, set of 4, one color — $60
  6. Immersion blender — $50
  7. Humidifier — $70
  8. Two-player board game — $30
  9. Throw blanket for the sofa — $50
  10. Espresso machine — $250
  11. Carry-on suitcase — $180
  12. Anniversary photo session — $300
  13. Dinner for two — $150
  14. Robot vacuum — $400, perfect for a group gift
  15. Honeymoon fund — any amount, goal $3,000

The first nine work for a guest coming solo. The espresso machine and the suitcase suit a couple, the robot vacuum a group of friends. The last line is for guests who prefer to give cash.

Gift finder

Invited, but the couple has no list?

Gift search setup: occasion, gift type, budget

The finder suggests wedding gifts from a description

Describe the couple in the GIFTbase finder: what they're into, how they live, your budget. It builds 10 ideas with prices and links to stores in their city.

Save the one you like, and nudge the couple to make a wishlist for the next occasion, like their first anniversary.

Wedding wishlist questions

15–25 items at different prices: kitchen, bedroom and bath, one or two big things to split and a couple of experiences for two. Add the model for appliances and the color and size for linens. There's a 15-item example above.

Put the link on your invitation or wedding website with one warm line, like “If you'd like to celebrate us with a gift, here's a list of things for our home.” Two more wordings are above.

It does the same job for guests. Each gift in a GIFTbase wishlist is a link, so it works with any store, and guests reserve gifts on the list page. There's no checkout in the app: guests buy from the store directly.

Create a list in GIFTbase, make it collaborative and send your partner a co-author invite. After that, both of you can add and edit gifts.

Not by default: reservations are hidden from list owners so gifts stay a surprise. If you'd rather see what's taken, turn off Secret booking in the list settings.

With the invitations, six to twelve weeks ahead. Close family often shops early, and splitting a big item takes time to organize.

No. GIFTbase charges neither the couple nor the guests, and there are no fees.
