Baby wishlist

In short. Build a “Baby” list in GIFTbase with 20–30 items: sleep, on the go, bath, feeding, clothes for the first months, care. Add the model for strollers and gear and the size for clothes. Share the link with family when you're ready, often with the baby shower invitation. Guests reserve items in a browser without an account, and big-ticket gear is easy to split.

How a wishlist helps new parents

You get what you picked

The stroller model, the onesie size, the blanket color: family gives exactly what's on the list.

Grandparents sort it out

Both sets of grandparents see each other's reservations, so two baby bathtubs never show up.

Big gear, split

Strollers and car seats are expensive. When the item is on the list, it's easy for family to chip in.

Fewer phone calls

A list with sizes and models ends the “which size should I get?” calls.

Where parents build a baby list

Baby lists come together from big-box stores and marketplaces, which carry both the big gear and the everyday supplies. A pasted link becomes a card with the photo and price.

A secondhand crib or a local stroller listing can go on the list as a link too.

How to make a baby wishlist

The last two months of pregnancy are a good time, once you know what you already have.

  1. Check what you already have

Hand-me-downs from older kids, friends and family stay off the list, so you don't get a second set.

  2. Go category by category

Sleep, on the go, bath, feeding, clothes, care. Write three to six items for each; the checklist is below.

  3. Add the details

Stroller model, clothing size, color. It all goes in the note on each wish.

  4. Share when you're ready

Many parents send the list with the baby shower invitation; others share it after the birth. Reservations show everyone what's taken.

Baby wishlist checklist

The basics for the first months. Cross off what you have and add the rest to your list.

Sleep

A crib or bassinet, a mattress that fits the crib, two or three waterproof mattress covers, three fitted sheets, sleep sacks, a baby monitor.

On the go

A stroller, an infant car seat, a seasonal bunting, a stroller rain cover, a diaper bag.

Bath

A baby tub, a bath support, a water thermometer, hooded towels, fragrance-free wash.

Feeding

A nursing pillow, bottles, a sterilizer, bibs, burp cloths, a breast pump if you need one.

Clothes

Bodysuits and sleepers in 0–3 and 3–6 months, hats, socks, a seasonal outer layer, a couple of newborn-size outfits for the first weeks.

Care

A changing pad, diapers in two sizes, wipes, baby nail clippers, a nasal aspirator.

Baby clothing sizes by age

SizeRoughly fits
PreemieBabies under about 5 lb
NewbornAbout 5–8 lb, the first weeks
0–3 monthsAbout 8–12 lb
3–6 monthsAbout 12–16 lb
6–9 monthsAbout 16–20 lb
9–12 monthsAbout 20–24 lb

Sizing varies by brand, so check the brand's chart. Babies outgrow newborn size within weeks: ask family for 0–3 and 3–6 months instead.

What to ask for beyond the basics

Once the essentials are covered, add things for the parents and for later.

For the parents

Comfortable nursing pajamas, an insulated tumbler, a massage gift card, meal delivery for the first week.

For later

A play mat, a crib mobile, board books, a high chair.

Keepsakes

A newborn photo shoot, a hand and footprint kit, a first-year photo album.

Split gifts

Stroller, car seat, video monitor. Put the model and color in the note.

The finder suggests gifts for a family without a list

If the parents didn't make a list, describe the family in the GIFTbase finder: who was born, where they live, your budget. It suggests 10 ideas with prices and links to stores in their city.

A gift just for the parents is always welcome too: in the first months, rest is what they need most.

Baby wishlist questions

20–30 items by category: sleep, on the go, bath, feeding, clothes for the first months and care. Add the model for strollers and gear and the size for clothes. The full checklist is above.

It does the same job for family. Each item in a GIFTbase wishlist is a link, so it works with any store, and people reserve items on the list page. There's no checkout in the app: they buy from the store directly.

Most parents send it with the baby shower invitation, four to eight weeks before the shower. If your family prefers to wait until after the birth, share it then: reservations still keep people from doubling up.

Mostly 0–3 and 3–6 months. A couple of newborn-size outfits are enough, since babies outgrow them within weeks.

Add the stroller as its own wish with the model and price, and note that you'd love a group gift. One relative reserves it and collects shares from the rest.

Yes. Make the wishlist collaborative and invite your partner as a co-author, so both of you can add and edit items.
